Annette Gaffney is an artist whose creative journey began with drawing spiders as a toddler. In a quest to find her true artistic passion, she has ventured into many disciplines, including fashion, jewellery and graphic design. In the early 1990's she realized that painting was the medium she found the most fulfilling. She decided to pursue a career in painting, subsequently exhibiting her work in solo and group exhibitions, and ultimately art galleries in Toronto, Ottawa and Prince Edward Island, Canada. Using a primary palette, Gaffney paints in a whimsical, bold, colourful and outlined style, which reflects her love of colour, line and shape, as well as her humorous perspective of the world. She has received awards for her work at group shows in Toronto and Ottawa. She has worked with Canadian school children as an Artist-In-Residence for the Arts Smarts program, whose goal is to engage young people in artistic activity, nurture creative thinking and develop future supporters and practitioners of the arts. She is a member of CARFAC and the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators(SCBWI) and her work can be found in both private and corporate collections in Canada. As part of her artistic journey, Gaffney has also ventured into writing and illustrating children's books as well as incorporating writing into her paintings. She is an artist who believes in the healing powers of humour and colour.
